Welfare for Physically Challenged
Commitment to Inclusion and Dignity
SEEDS is committed to promoting the rights, dignity, and social inclusion of persons with
disabilities and physically challenged individuals. From the early 2000s onwards, SEEDS has
been extending focused support to ensure that differently abled persons are not excluded from
basic welfare schemes, social security benefits, and essential services. The organisation
believes that disability should not be a barrier to living a dignified and secure life.
Facilitating Access to Government Welfare Schemes
One of the key interventions of SEEDS is assisting physically challenged persons to access
government welfare entitlements. SEEDS works closely with district and taluk-level
authorities to help beneficiaries obtain Disability Identity Cards from the District Differently
Abled Welfare Office. These identity cards enable access to various social protection schemes
and services.
Support for Basic Social Security (2000s onwards)
SEEDS has facilitated the issuance of ration cards through the Taluk Supply Office, enabling
food security for persons with disabilities and their families. In addition, eligible beneficiaries
are supported to access Old Age Pension (OAP) and other social assistance schemes from the
Taluk Office. This support has played a vital role in improving economic stability among
vulnerable households.
Assistance to Persons with Visual Impairment and Chronic Illness
SEEDS extends special support to persons with visual impairment and those affected by
chronic illnesses such as leprosy. Through health camps, referrals, and follow-up support,
SEEDS ensures that such individuals are not isolated and receive necessary medical attention
and welfare benefits.
Health and Rehabilitation Support
Through free health camps and eye camps conducted since the early 2000s, SEEDS has
enabled early identification of disabilities and visual impairments. In collaboration with
hospitals and government health departments, beneficiaries have been referred for further
treatment, including free cataract surgeries and follow-up care.
Community Awareness and Social Acceptance
SEEDS actively works to reduce stigma associated with disability by creating awareness at
the community level. Meetings, group discussions, and village-level interactions promote
acceptance, inclusion, and respect for persons with disabilities. Families and community
members are sensitized to support differently-abled persons in education, livelihoods, and
social participation.
Impact and Reach
Over the years, SEEDS has supported dozens of physically challenged individuals by
facilitating access to disability identity cards, ration cards, and pension schemes. These
interventions have strengthened their access to public services, reduced economic
vulnerability, and enhanced their quality of life.
